What are Blue Balls?

During sexual arousal of a man, there is an increase of blood flow to his testicles and penis.Other muscles which control the outflow of fluid from the penis constrict and reduce the amount of blood flow going out. This Process ensures a high blood pressure is maintained in order to produce and sustain an erection during sexual intercourse.

Blue Balls may occur when a man’s erect penis stays in a prolonged state of sexual stimulation, and he does not have an orgasm or ejaculate. It will cause the lymphatic fluids to congest, and the blood will be deprived of oxygen. This causes a cramp like ache in the testes, and some men may notice a slight blue coloring of their testicles.
The testicles don’t really turn blue. What happens is that the blood flow into the skin of the scrotum is also restricted. This restriction of blood flow in the skin causes the blood to turn a darker color. Because of this, it appears blue in color through the skin, hence the name “Blue Balls”.
The easiest way to relieve congestion of the lymphatic fluids is through ejaculation. The effect of ejaculating causes an increase in blood flow throughout the penis. This relieves the congestion of fluids, and the symptoms of blue balls will slowly disappear. Even if you don’t orgasm, the symptoms should fade away an hour after sexual arousal stops.
It is not harmful to get blue balls, and not everyone may experience it. However, once sexual arousal has stopped, and any symptom of blue balls persists without any noticeable improvement for more than 12 hours, you should consult a doctor.

Blue balls may occur as a result of an extended amount of foreplay with ones partner. It may also be that the man deliberately holds back his orgasm in order to provide prolonged sexual pleasure for his partner.
